Application of SMART series analyzer in Metallurgy/Heat Treatment
In metallurgical heat treatment applications, inerting, oxidation, reduction, carburizing, decarburization, nitriding and other processes, the monitoring of gas concentrations of hydrogen (H2), carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), oxygen (O2), water vapor (H2O), nitrogen (N2), and ammonia (NH3) is critical to product quality.
Methane (CH4), carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), ammonia (NH3) are measured by SMART-NDIR (Non-Spectral Infrared), or TDL (Tunable Diode Laser), FTIR (FTIR/NIR), moisture (H2O) is measured by SMART-MT, and oxygen content is measured by SMART-OP (Zirconia) or TDL (Tunable diode laser) to measure oxygen content. Hydrogen (H2) concentration from 0 to 50/80/100% is measured by SMART-TCD (thermally conductive).
Metallurgy (blast furnace ironmaking)
In steel production, iron is reduced using a Bottom-blown oxygen converter(BOF) or electric arc furnace (EAC) to further reduce impurities such as carbon, nitrogen and hydrogen, which generates large amounts of carbon monoxide (CO), hydrogen (H2) and oxygen (O2).
SMART-NDIR (non-spectroscopic infrared) is used to measure carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), and methane (CH4) in the flue gas exiting the top of the furnace, at the dust collection bag, and at the coking gas outlet, it's helpful to monitor blast furnace efficiency and process safety. SMART-TCD (thermal conductivity) is used to measure hydrogen (H2) in the flue gas, at the dust collection bag, and at the coking gas outlet.
